My career path in the mental health profession began in the early 1990s and has included experience with topics including PTSD, Generalized Anxiety, Burnout/Compassion Fatigue, Substance Use Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Seasonal Affective Disorder, Veterans’ Mental Health/Disability, Interactions with the legal system, and Homelessness.
I have traveled extensively for my work, and am Licensed as a Psychologist in Washington, Alaska, and the Northern Mariana Islands. From 2014-2016, I moved to the Northern Mariana Islands to help develop a Mental Health program on the Islands of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. That experience, along with my education at the U.S. International University has given me increased knowledge and sensitivity to work and interactions with cultures other than my own. I have enjoyed weaving that combination of compassion, education, introspection, and each client’s drive toward improvement into the work I do with the people who come through my door. It has been my experience that everyone is radically unique and also an important part of their surroundings. It is therefore in everyone’s best interest that you are able to express the best version of yourself. Finding those ways in which life is going well so those strengths can be used to overcome obstacles has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my work. Toward these ends, I listen actively, offer feedback, and help the individual in front of me come up with a treatment plan that works best for them. It is important that this process be set up for your personal success. I have a deep passion for this work and am so excited that our paths may cross and I could be given the chance to know you and your unique story.
I am looking forward to settling back into Pierce County, reconnecting with the natural beauty of the place, and to meeting those of you who are in the process of making this decision to do the hard work toward self-improvement.
