Chantel Hayes, LSWAIC

Headshot of Chantel HayesHello! My name is Chantel Hayes (she/her), and firstly I want to praise whoever may be reading this for taking the first step towards seeking help, which arguably is the most challenging step. Just know you are not alone and that we’re happy you’re here.

To share a little bit about myself, I identify as a black, cisgender, neurotypical, straight woman. I was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington. I am a parent of one sassy three year old Siberian Husky named Levi! I would describe myself as a fairly creative person, and in my free time you can catch me painting, reading, listening and writing music, as well as spending time with my family and friends.

My decision to become a therapist initially blossomed from trying to understand how my family dynamics affected my childhood upbringing. As a person of color, from an early age I was exposed to many challenges rooted from undiagnosed mental health challenges and a hopelessness that left my family without the tools to move forward. As a therapist, I am passionate about helping clients see where their past experiences may intersect with the current hardships they are facing.

My ideal population would be teens and young adults within BIPOC communities, although I have experience working with individuals of all ages and identities. I am passionate about empowering my clients to navigate the challenges life brings by making sure they are equipped with the proper coping strategies and tools. Some of the values that I bring to my therapeutic practice is cultural humility, social justice, empowerment, and resilience. As your therapist, it is important that I do everything in my power to create a safe, nonjudgemental space where healing and growth can flourish.

The approaches I use in my practice are strengths-based, solution-focused, trauma-informed, and person-centered. I draw from modalities such as motivational interviewing (MI), art therapy, as well as non-traditional forms of therapy. If these are qualities you’re looking for in a therapist, we may be a great fit! I am looking forward to hearing from you so that we can start your healing journey.
