I approach therapy with an open mind. I am ready to learn about each individual and how their experiences have influenced who they are. One of my strengths as a therapist is active listening. I listen to my client’s perspective and try to see it through their lens to avoid making assumptions about their experience. I partner with my client; to identify patterns of thought and behavior which may be preventing them from living the life they envision. I work from a strength based philosophy and help my client’s draw upon their personal strength and insight to help create effective coping strategies.
Professionally I have over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. I am both a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Marriage & Family therapist. I use a person-centered approach which is trauma informed. I have extensive training in family systems therapy, disordered eating and eating disorders, as well as body image issues. In addition, I have significant experience with developmental issues in infants and children for which I use attachment-based models. I have further training in pain management and chronic health issues. I use mindfulness-based techniques, as well as CBT, DBT and ACT, as primary modalities in therapy.
Personally, I enjoy spending time with my family, spending time in the outdoors, cooking, creating glass art and music.
