Julianne McEwen, LMHC

Like most who seek therapy it is because life involves turmoil and mine has been no exception. I decided to become a therapist because I wanted to support people who were looking to make positive changes in their life. Making a change is difficult and frequently feels frightening. It is with a sense of compassion and respect that I can join with my clients on this journey. I believe everyone has the power to change but it is easy to feel stuck in fear, anxiety, depression, trauma, unhealthy relationships, and powerlessness. Helping others move through these barriers is my passion and watching patients evolve is my reward.

I approach therapy with an open mind. I am ready to learn about each individual and how their experiences have influenced who they are. One of my strengths as a therapist is active listening. I listen to my client’s perspective and try to see it through their lens to avoid making assumptions about their experience. I partner with my client; to identify patterns of thought and behavior which may be preventing them from living the life they envision. I work from a strength based philosophy and help my client’s draw upon their personal strength and insight to help create effective coping strategies.

Professionally I have over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. I am both a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Marriage & Family therapist. I use a person-centered approach which is trauma informed. I have extensive training in family systems therapy, disordered eating and eating disorders, as well as body image issues. In addition, I have significant experience with developmental issues in infants and children for which I use attachment-based models. I have further training in pain management and chronic health issues. I use mindfulness-based techniques, as well as CBT, DBT and ACT, as primary modalities in therapy.

Personally, I enjoy spending time with my family, spending time in the outdoors, cooking, creating glass art and music.
