Tracy Detty, LMHC

I knew from the age of 12 that I wanted to explore a career in counseling. My mom was having a difficult day, upset and crying. I grabbed a notebook, and told her to tell me all about it, pretending I was her counselor. She started laughing and I knew then that I wanted to help put a smile on someone’s face if possible! Stand-up comedy did not seem to be a viable option, so I chose counseling instead.

I am passionate about helping others feel empowered in their own lives rather than stuck or hopeless. I want to encourage individuals in counseling to reach their fullest potential and find fulfillment.

I have been described as compassionate, down-to-Earth, humorous, and non-judgmental. I believe humor is a great tool to use in the therapeutic process. I believe that with hard work in the counseling process on the part of both the counselor and the client, all people have the capability to change.

Professionally, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I use a client centered approach and use several therapeutic processes to include CBT, DBT (with an emphasis on mindfulness), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings throughout my career to include: managing group homes for individuals with developmental delays; crisis intervention work; intakes in a behavioral health hospital; conducting therapy in homes with adults who have both mental health and physical health diagnoses; intakes and therapy with incarcerated males; and individual therapy with clients on a telehealth platform. Additionally, I had the pleasure of assisting a police department in the area to begin their first Co-Responder (mental health professional going out with police) program, and I was able to train officers in crisis de-escalation tactics.

Most importantly, I am a mother to a 10-year-old boy who is my world. The majority of my free time is spent with him. I also enjoy reading, movies and hiking in my down time.
